OUR SERVICES

Communication & Swallowing Therapy

Complete Scope holistically evaluates and treats adult communication and swallowing disorders. We specialize in working with head and neck cancer and stroke patients, focusing on maximizing speech and eating skills in your daily life and social settings. We understand that our clients make the most progress when we take a team approach, collaborating with patients, family members, and medical professionals.

Pediatric Speech Therapy

At Complete Scope, we treat speech sound disorders in children and teens. With extensive knowledge and training in speech sound development and orofacial structure, we promote awareness and correct articulatory placement using speech drills and high-repetition activities. We help our patients master challenging speech sounds to speak clearly and communicate with confidence.

Myofunctional Therapy for All Ages

At Complete Scope, our myofunctional therapy approach goes beyond simply addressing structural aspects to targeting all 4 areas of orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs)—structure, airway, feeding, and speech—to improve overall health and eliminate the need for other interventions. Our sessions focus on exercises in the context of games, books, and tools to make each session engaging and effective.

Mobile FEES ~ Swallowing Assesssments

Complete Scope provides a gentle and thorough Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES). FEES uses an endoscope to visualize a patient's swallow as they eat and drink. Our mobile FEES equipment allows us to perform high-quality diagnostic assessments in each patient's most comfortable setting, including their home, assisted living facility, skilled nursing facility, or medical office.

MEET KIM

Kimberly Almstrom, MA, CCC-SLP
Owner, Speech-Language Pathologist

With over 20 years of experience as a speech and swallowing therapist, Kim has developed clinical skills across the complete scope of her field— assessing and treating patients of all ages with speech, language, cognitive, voice, myofunctional, and swallowing disorders.

In a time where much of healthcare has shifted towards large corporate companies that often have a "factory style" of providing care, Kim recognized a need for a small-scale provider who values one-on-one, quality care.

Kimberly Almstrom, MA, CCC-SLP, owner and speech therapist at Complete Scope Speech & Swallowing Services in Huntington, NY

She founded Complete Scope Speech & Swallowing Services to achieve this goal. Kim also goes above and beyond to incorporate each patient's interests into her therapy sessions— for example, using recipes and grocery lists in therapy sessions for an avid baker or using fishing magazines and a tackle box in sessions for a fisherman. Her sessions are always functional, motivating, and patient-centered!

Kim is highly skilled in diagnosing swallowing disorders using the gold standard in swallowing assessment, FEES (performed with an endoscope with a camera). She also has advanced training in manual therapy and trismus rehabilitation for head and neck cancer management as well as speech, voice, and swallowing disorders. In her spare time, she enjoys being with her family, taking yoga and Pilates classes, shopping, and boating. She is an eternal optimist and positive person which shows in everything she does. Kim looks forward to partnering with you and your loved ones on the journey to recovery!

KIND WORDS FROM OUR CLIENTS
I have watched Kim work with my wife and attribute her gentle, sweet, and caring demeanor to making my wife comfortable enough to produce positive results.

“Several years ago, my wife had a major brain aneurysm so severe that the doctors didn’t know if she would survive. Since then, she has had 10 brain surgeries. The damage was so severe on the left side of her brain, leaving her unable to talk. Over the past 3 years, I have employed the services of 3 different speech therapists, none of whom were able to produce any positive results. Four months ago, upon one of my wife’s doctor’s recommendations, I hired Kim to see if there was anything she could do. My wife can now count to 10 and say the names of several family members. She also says yes, no, and ok and is getting more words with each session. I have watched Kim work with my wife and attribute her gentle, sweet, and caring demeanor to making my wife comfortable enough to produce positive results."
